Introduction

Students:

If you are in one of my Composition 1 classes (English 1010) this Fall 2006, you should have purchased or borrowed this textbook by Mark Connelly already. The title is The Sundance Writer: A Rhetoric, Reader, Handbook. You need the second edition! You can't miss this textbook at the bookstore--it's the color of the UT Volunteers, orange (see right).

Each blog will provide information and some inquiry into a text or an idea. For this first blog, remember that you have your first out-of-class essay and your first in-class essay due this week.

I was very surprised to see this gragh. I was concerned to see in the pie chart that 21% of christianity was of the Islam faith. I am a true follower and a Christian.( Hope that was the right grammer. I sure would hate to have a fragment:Ha) I know we have missionary's all over this planet due to the fact they want everyone to Know His word. I do beleive that each and every day someone is saved by the words of Our Lord Christ. One can only hope that this chart will one day represent 100% of God loving Christians. KD

The saying "A picture is worth as thousand words" means that you can capture all details and feelings in one photo. For instance, a writer can describe a horrible event in detail of the scenery and attitudes perceived. Descriptions can get very descripted and can ofton leave a reader still without full visualization. They jump from detail to detail. When viewing a photo, they can get the full effect of the event together. Nothing is broken up or forgotten. It is all right in front of you to view. Just a more simple way to capture the same event. it think it trying to tell you that a person can get alot of different thoughtes out of one picture. which i think is very true because i can look at one picture and make it into a story.

I agree with Magic, just looking at a picture can cause you to think about a thousand possibilities of what could be happening in the picture.

Mr. J. and Class,
The idea of going to war over oil is certainly an issue that our country is facing. My opinion is that why are we so addicted to the oil to begin with? Is it because we drive the best cars ever made or do we need the energy to fuel our multibillion dollar homes of which I don’t posses? If you the class ever saw Fahrenheit 9/11 and take in account just maybe 50% of that film would you feel the same about the current war? Americans are greedy. We as a nation want it all. I did not agree with the war. I have twin sons that are of the age of a draft should we have one. How could I as mothers decide which son would defend our country? I wouldn’t have to the government would take the first born twin even though he is probably the weakest. Neither one of my children would ever join our military. They are both naturalist. They do not believe in war of any kind unless it was a spiritual warfare. I do support our military. The cause and effect of this war is undeniable the loss of life. Mr. J. put the states on the board and I know he is right, the loss of civilians is more than any other war fought by Americans. I think it is time to come home. Kimberly Dubois…

The war in Iraq produced more than an invasion and a country under dictatorship it produced a shear hate for America. I think that if Dessert Storm was finished years ago this war wouldn’t have been necessary. Back in the late eighties a controversy emerged from the White House our then Commander and Chief George Bush Sr. had a notion to go and protect our countries and his interest in oil located in the Middle East. Instead we got into a crises situation and lost. Our soldiers came back with diseases that can’t be identified let a lone be cured. Keep in mind 9/11 hasn’t even happened yet so why did we continue a war that no one will ever win? We know the cause but the effects will forever be there from children growing up without a mom or dad to the mental and physical injuries that will linger a lifetime. Yet America is using up all our resources and the cost of this insolvable war will be present until the end of time. Like the ads say we have even more terrorist to worry about so why continue this quest? Honestly, I don’t think Commander and Chief George W. knows either. He must think like father like son “Ha”. Make sure to vote this Tuesday class. Kimberly Dubois
